Case Study: RhinoGuard — Saving the One-Horned Rhino

RhinoGuard is a UX/UI design concept for a mobile app focused on protecting the endangered one-horned rhino. It educates users, allows live rhino tracking, and motivates conservation action all in a sleek, intuitive interface.

Project Overview

RhinoGuard is a mobile application designed to raise awareness and drive global action for the conservation of the endangered one-horned rhino. It combines education, live tracking, and engagement features to inform and inspire users.

Goal

Design an intuitive, engaging mobile experience that educates the general public, allows live rhino tracking, and encourages conservation actions such as donations, volunteering, and sharing.

Target Audience

  • General public (globally)

  • Wildlife enthusiasts

  • Students and educators

  • Environmental activists

  • Casual users curious about rhinos

Problem

Despite being iconic, the one-horned rhino remains endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, and lack of public awareness. There's a need for an engaging digital platform that connects people to the cause.

Solution

A user-friendly mobile app offering:

  • Real-time rhino tracking

  • A Learning Hub with facts, articles, and infographics

  • Action Cards to prompt donations and sharing

  • User progress and achievements

  • Interactive, accessible UI with emotional impact

Design Process

  1. User Research & Personas

    • Identified 3 core user types: Explorer (curious learner), Guardian (activist), Supporter (donor).

    • Mapped user goals, frustrations, and device preferences.

  2. Information Architecture

    • 5 key sections: Home, Live Tracking, Learning Hub, Take Action, Profile

  3. Wireframes

    • Low-fidelity wireframes for each screen

    • Bottom sheets, modals, snackbars, and tooltips

  4. UI Design

    • Nature-inspired color palette (dark green primary, accent blue)

    • Modern, accessible typography

    • Reusable components: cards, buttons, dialogs, nav bars

  5. Prototyping

    • Clickable Figma prototype with full navigation

Screens & Features

  • Home: Hero section + quick links to main features

  • Live Tracking: Interactive rhino location map

  • Learning Hub: Scrollable cards and articles

  • Take Action: Action cards (Donate, Share, Volunteer)

  • Profile: Tracks user contributions, badges, and progress
